Provo Canyon School is a residential mental health treatment center that serves youth that are struggling with emotional, behavioral and academic challenges. We serve both boys and girls ages 8 through 18 and have gender-specific programs for boys and girls at two distinct and separate locations. For more than 40 years, we have continued to enhance, expand and improve services and resources for families and students. As a Recreational Therapist, you’ll develop programs designed to meet the psycho-social needs of our resident students. You’ll be responsible to assess the students while they’re engaged in RT, and document any concerns or activities. Students work with a few different teams (rec therapy, mental health therapy, academic, etc.), so we all collaborate together for maximum success. Proactive follow-up, organization, creativity, and empathy are skills that will help you thrive in this role. Typical activities include: Group therapy every weekday (and once a month on Saturday) including initiative games, experiential activities, or a ropes course. Leisure education, both on and off campus, including rock climbing, hiking, bowling, museum trips, miniature golf, racquetball, horse back riding, canoeing, etc. Three month ski program during the winter. Overnight camping for every season, including boy scout camps, Bear Lake, Moab, Arches, Goblin Valley. Must be licensed by the state of Utah as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or in the process of becoming so. Must be 21 years or older.
