Overall responsibility for developing and supervising the activity program for a 29-bed adult unit in the Psychiatric Treatment Facility. Tracks, maintains and manages Activities Department budget. Assists with administering of resident trust accounts and purchasing personal items. Prepares monthly activity calendar to address individual needs and preferences of residents. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise others in carrying out resident activities. Uses therapeutic skills and techniques to provide cognitive and sensory groups for geriatric residents with mental illness. Evaluates program activities and monitors compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Assesses resident social and activity skills; analyzes and interprets assessment results. Evaluates and documents resident progress. Conducts needs assessments as necessary. Reports observational and interpretive data to the Treatment Team. Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team in the development of an individualized treatment plan for each resident. Develops, plans, implements and evaluates individual and group recreational therapy programming utilizing a variety of modalities as indicated. Provides social, leisure, and recreational skill development activities and psychiatric rehabilitation services. Oversees, coordinates, and assists staff and volunteers in planning and conducting recreational and rehabilitation services both on and off hospital grounds. Provides professional training and consultation for clinical and nursing staff in areas of therapeutic recreation, leisure skills, activity therapies, and psychiatric rehabilitation. |Minimum Requirements||Certification through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist.
Good knowledge of: therapeutic recreation theory, practices and methods; recreation activities and equipment and their suitability for handicapped/special needs clients; purpose and administration of assessment instruments; human growth and development patterns.
Experience: developing recreational therapy treatment goals for clients; planning and conducting individual and group therapy sessions.
