Recreational activities are a major component of every youth’s treatment and care while enrolled at Heritage RTC. Thus, our Therapeutic Recreation Specialists pay a crucial role in designing and implementing activities that maximize every youth’s potential while enhancing their quality of life! We seek candidates who are creative, innovative, and resourceful. We want someone who can be collaborative with all disciplines and departments, to utilize therapeutic recreation as a positive reinforcement to help change the lives of our youth for the better! This particular position will be assigned to work in our Elevate Academy, which is focused on treating teens with Mood Disorders through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Our choice candidate is one who has experience both in recreational therapy and residential treatment, so they are ready and adept on achieving successful therapeutic results!
Schedule: Monday – Friday, exempt. Start and end times may vary.
Develop and implement recreation and leisure activities best suited for the Elevate Academy’s vision and purpose, that are consistent with the youths’ therapeutic needs, interests, goals/objectives, and well-being.
Work closely with Home Directors and Home staff to plan and facilitate group activities that are adjacent to the behavioral, emotional, or relational needs to be addressed (i.e. team building, trust, communication, problem-solving, etc.).
Assist supervisor is assessing activity effectiveness, and utilize the best, up-to-date practices in the field. Complete recreational assessments on newly admitted youth.
Write accurate and complete progress / treatment notes on each youth who participated in the assigned recreational activity.
Mentor the youth, and develop close, personal, and emotionally supportive relationships to guide them in their treatment progression.
Understand and implement principles from the book, The Anatomy of Peace by The Arbinger Institute, into recreational activities; this includes also being an example of conflict resolution techniques to enhance a culture of excellence.

|Minimum Requirements||Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation Management.
Completed Utah state licensure.
Completed TRS certification.
Previous therapeutic recreation experience preferred, along with experience in residential care / wilderness programs.
Aptitude in working with adolescents, ages 12-18.
Understanding and competency of Mood Disorders, Trauma-based Disorders, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
A valid Driver’s License, and no more than one traffic violation on driving record in the past three years in order to be approved to drive company vehicles.
Excellent communication and interpersonal-relationship skills.
Proficient computer skills, with the ability to write complete and thorough progress notes regarding sessions.
Excellent physical condition.
Minimum 21 years of age.
Ability to converse fluently in English.
